The quilt group is planning to make log cabin quilts on the retreat this year…

This is going to be my version…made with 1” strips!

Most of the quilters are going to use foundation method but I prefer

to just add 1” strips and cut them to length as I go…

machine paper piecing takes a little practise...

I have never been pleased with how the stitches are loose

after removing the paper...maybe I should find some thinner

paper...anyway these turned out better then the first attempt.

I really like the tiny houses in reds...

OK...the dream is to learn to take better pictues!!!

So I started a 365/366 pictures blog...

the day flies by with the everyday tasks and I haven't

taken a single picture...so I hurriedly find some inspiration...

the vase I bought at the op shop for $3 and then I had to find some flowers...

these roses were half price at Coles...

so now it's day12!!

I did manage a little sewing today...I will have to come back with

pictures tomorrow...

...life is slowly returning to the usual pace!

Our two sons have now gone back to their home and work...

that just leaves us here...the lawn is mowed for the first

time in 2012...the fridge is returning to everyday food...

and maybe in 2012 I will finish some of my WIP..

We had a late afternoon storm with very heavy rain...

...I wanted to add a little Christmas to our outdoor area/veranda!

after a visit to the shop full of tempting ideas this is what

I decided on...I like to keep Christmas simple...not too much tinsel.

...and the shop was full of tinsel and baubles (with batteries)

that twinkled!

I was tempted by the lights in big baubles but no I only

bought home these stars!

As we will eat Christmas lunch in the outdoor area instead of in

the dining room I wanted to add some colour...

...And then for the table I am deciding between

a glass bowl filled with colourful baubles or frangipani

and a floating candle!

I think it will be the frangipani...they just need

to come out in flower now...I have a pink

and a white tree....

We went to Brisbane...Thursday to Saturday...

to the Stitch and Craft Show!

We wandered around the city...went to Queen Street Mall...

...hurried along to the entry of the Craft show!

Everyone is at the far end of the convention centre

waiting to buy their entry tickets!!

...and took pictures of quilts!

I like this quilt...its very simple with checks and florals!

It was a nice couple of days away...looking at quilts, some buying

of course, too much eating and lots of walking.

I had not been to one of these shows for about

5yrs so it was very inspiring to see whats new!

...my sweet sixteen is a learning curve!

Took me ages to get the tension right after I made the mistake of

altering it...with practice my stitching is getting better!

But I don't want to show my machine quilting up close ,yet!

I joined Blueberries fabric club...and this little bundle

of reproduction fabrics arrived this week...not sure what I am

going to make with them...too pretty to open!

This little quilt I started making last weekend...inspired by the pattern

in the latest Quilters Companion...called Melody 33!

I had these strips of Westminster fabric and I thought it was

perfect to use them up!

Also, now I have a small quilt I can practice machine quilting on...

should I add a border or maybe just bind it in a black and white check!

I added this rose to my garden...it's called 'Soeur Emmanuelle'

named after a 94 yr old French nun...

...it has a soft, beautiful fragrance!

...I love perfumed roses!

I have been slowly organizing my sewing room...

I thought beginning to use it would

be the best way to work out where I want things to go!!

...today was a beautiful sunny day!

So we went to our local market...it is a very small market held at the show grounds!

...pony club was also on in the show ground!

...today makes 3 times this year...it's usually raining or we have something else happening

when it's on...but today was fine and sunny!

This house is across the road from the showgrounds...

when my sons were young we lived 2 houses around the corner

from this house...see the beautiful blue sky!!!

...I usually find something at the market!

And today it was these books...

...then we went to Bunnings to buy skirting boards for the sewing room...these plants had to come home...

mini gerbera and white salvia...now planted in the front garden!

...my son put down bamboo flooring when he was

home last weekend!

Covered over at the moment until the room is painted

which won't be ready to pick up till Tuesday.

...I have been doing some stitching in the dining room.

Needs to grow a little...

today we went for a drive to 'the house with no steps'

it's a farm, cafe, and nursery where young people with

disabilities work...

there are tropical gardens to wander through!

...this was a pretty spot, the cafe is in the background!

...not a real crocodile!

...and cup cake and coffee!

...and a big fig tree!

...we were looking for a pot and plant to brighten the front entry way!

I found a pot I liked...went and had coffee and thought about it

for a while and then went back to the nursery and bought it!

I'm using French General fabrics and others.

43 fat quarters of different fabric is required...

I'm so happy with how it turned out...

...and on a bed!

I'm not sure that it is a bed quilt though...

...one thing leads to another!

While I was out the back to take the photos... lead to wandering around and looking at the plants...which lead to weeding and watering!

This is probably a peach tree...shows spring isn't too far away!

...then it lead to trying to find something to pick for a vase!

...most of the plants here are tropical.

Which will be great in summer

but now there just isn't any flowers to pick!

...curtains finally arrived!

The curtain man called in at 4.30pm yesterday...said he would be back Sat morning to put them up...he had to take back one set as they were made into two separate curtains

and I only wanted one on the sliding door...so he will be back tomorrow!! maybe

I found some sewing time this afternoon...

and some progress on the French General,

...the hexagons go together by machine quiet quickly...

once in the flow of them!

...tomorrow I need to cut and sew the final border!

..and the top is finished!!

I have been waiting all day for the curtain man to arrive with our

new curtains...he was going to be here at 8am, than 11am than rang and said after lunch.

There was a more pressing awning job to do, now that it is raining.

3.30pm and still not here...

...will be new curtains in the dining room

....and here where there has never been curtains!

...new curtains and blind for the family room!

...next job is to get the TV aerial moved to the other side of the lounge room! ...we have been waiting for the electrician to fit

this job in all week...maybe next week!!

...while I was waiting I cut out the borders for my french general quilt

I was so pleased with how it turned out

...our son was home for the weekend

and he enjoyed some before heading back north

...this vine was on the front of the house...it looked so nice,

but it had to go as it was beginning to grow between the bricks

and the woodwork

still organising my sewing room and fabric!

My sewing room isn't very big so I have to use the cupboard

in the laundry for storage...the laundry was designed to be

a laundry/sewing room...but I prefer to use the separate room for sewing.

than we had delivered 3/4 cubic metre of river stones for the driveway!

Where has the time gone...I haven't posted since mid April!

I have been busy sorting and packing because we are so excited we

are moving very soon to this house....

..it has all we need and is a larger house and smaller yard!

And lots of other surprises I'll share later when we are

there! It's amazing how much stuff is accumulated

over the years...far too many boxes to fill!!!

And it does have a small room I can use

for sewing...

I was in the mood for some crochet...

so I will add different textured wools and more colours...

What I have been working on...

February already...where did January go...

...today I stitched together another block for reines des abellies quilt

...and now 3 blocks of a charmed life!

...I have to remember to stitch all the little bits like flower centres as I

go, instead of having to come back later and finish them...

...and lilies on my table!

I also stitched together a doll quilt for the doll quilt swap I joined...

and 2 friendship blocks for the quilt group!
