Scrap quilt

Twiddletails  is hosting a scrap quilt challenge ...as I started making a scrappy log cabin a few days ago...I thought I would join in.

My log cabin is going to be made from those scraps I have accumulated over the years...so some can probably be called vintage.

I have no photo yet...but will be back with one soon.

flower planting

a punnet of three lisianthus I planted today...hope they grow.
I seem to only get one flower at a time from my flower growing efforts...but I keep trying!
pretty pink dalia...these come up each year on their own

my stitching is still going very slow...butterfly garden quilt has had some progress
cut my scraps into 2" strips ...to make a scrappy log cabin... my scraps are almost vintage

With saddness

I have gone to write a post a couple of times but was lost for words.

There has not been a lot of thought for sewing this week as we have watched the TV  news, in shock, the results of the weekend fires in Victoria.  Asking how could so many people loose their lives.

Then to the north are massive floods... we have extended family with small children in the floods in north Queensland.  One BIL's home has water inside.

Australians are resilient...pull together in hard times and pick up the pieces afterwards.
Our climate at times can be harsh and cruel.

My eldest son is in the volunteer rural fire service in the town where he lives...the fire service people are hero's along with the other volunteers.

Our thoughts are with all the people in both these tragic situations.

stitching today

Spent some time today sitting out the back and stitching the Jan willowberry block...now finished!
Feb block traced and began stitching...

February tisket a tasket at bunny hill is really lovely... so next on my list.  Or probably at the same time as my other projects.

Most of Australia is having severe weather...either flooding or heat wave.  But here it is hot but not too unpleasant for this time of year...

this week

This week went by so quickly...days were taken up!
Sunday was quilt group day...catching up after the Christmas break...seeing what everyone had been making.

Wednesday we went to Brisbane for my husband to see an ankle specialist...they said the same as the doctors here.
I've have been stitching on my butterfly garden quilt...block 8.  Worked the lavender..now stitching the patchwork blocks...a little time consuming, but the finished effect is great.
Two fat quarters I bought yesterday and 2 balls of pearl cotton I'm going to do some big stitch quilting.
I finished my Late Bloomer quilt top...I just need to iron it before I take a photo.
I'm going to quilt it with the pearl cotton...haven't decided which colour yet.  I washed the backing the other day so now just have to find a free day to put the layers together.

The quilt in the homespun magazine is machine quilted...but I haven't tackled machine quilting on a large quilt.
