origami bag

I made this little origami bag from the tutorial at quiltsalot.
I was halfway through making it and though ...hmm I've seen this somewhere before!
The bag below was the present I got at my quilt group Christmas swap...only she changed the pattern to have the pockets inside.

Calendar Quilt January

... my strips sewn together for the calendar quilt challenge.
I chose yellows for our sunny, hot January weather.

My strips are 1"x10" cut...I didn't want the finished quilt to get too big...

I selected these fabrics to make the late bloomer quilt by the Thimble Blossom pattern from the current yearbook of Homespun magazine.
I have the strips of patchwork made ... the circles fused on and now have to buttonhole stitch around them.
I would have been futher ahead...but yesterday I had a small drama...  I suddenly had a severe ear ache.  After seeing how it went for a couple of hours...decided I better go to the nearby hospital and have it checked out. By the time I got there the pain had was saying I probably don't need to be here.  The medical staff had a look anyway...and there was an an ant in my ear...which they quickly got out.

There is a lot of ants in our house this year...usually means rain is coming.

Applique BOM

I came across this very nice BOM at My Quilt Corner .

I really should do some stitching/sewing and a little less blogging.
Though I have done a little work on my Butterfly Garden Quilt this week.

We thought the young bird squawking from 5 or earlier in the morning and all day was coming from  the currawong's nest ...until we seen the bird.  Strangest currawong ever!

Looked it up in the australian bird book... think it is a Channel-Billed Cuckoo...also called rainbird or stormbird

They place their eggs in a currawong or crows nest...they migrate from New Guinea before the wet season and stay around till March.

No wonder the local resident currawong looked like something wasn't right!

Another BOM stitchery - I thought I would stitch at willowberry designs
Now I  just have to enlarge the design... I do enjoy working stitcheries...though I have a few on the go!

Happy New Year

Happy New Year for 2009...
We went to our local fireworks display this was really good...lots of people out to enjoy the fireworks.
The fireworks are held at 9pm so young families can enjoy them
Only just got around to doing some sewing today, since Christmas...have been looking at blogs for some inspiration though.

Put away the Christmas decorations yesterday, now ready for a fresh start to the year.
