Christmas

Christmas tree pulled out of it's storage spot... lights added. Only one bulb needed replacing and all work! The tree fits neatly into this little space by the fire. And I still love the fence!
Now to add the decorations... these paper machete stars and hearts are my favourite... I've had them for a lot of years. They still make my heart sing.
The finished tree... I almost forgot I acquired the standing santa last year...no the year before.
I have xmas tree ornaments from my two sons travells...a tin santa from Italy, a tin sheep with santa hat from New Zealand.
And santa under the southern cross I made a number of years ago...
Just, need to add my wreath to the front door...a couple of things out the back.

Block 7

Block 7 of Butterfly Garden Quilt is now pieced together, ready for the applique and embroidery.

It's been raining all day... perfect sewing and quilting day... though I seem to have spent all day cooking and cleaning up afterwards.  Also watched a little TV!

Yesterday I spent 2 hours at the dentist...another long appointment next week!

Red Delicious BOM

I found this BOM and decided to join in as I have a collection of red fat quarters. estheraliu.blogspot.com
My collection of reds came about from my quilt groups birthday present.  We each choose a fabric theme and then each member gives a fat quarter in that theme.  Mine this year was reds- I kept it simple... I do have another quilt in progress in red fabrics.  The different themes included japanese, african, greens, unusual, 30's, purple and teal, pretties, black and white, blue and red...it was a fun idea for a birthday swap.  Now I have to think up what I would like next year.

Small trip

Christmas organising began... bought the wrapping paper.  Trying to keep Christmas simple...I liked this Christmas tree wrapping paper then found these gold stars, trees and baubles for gift tags.  The string I bought a few years ago at Country Road, I have used it for gift wrapping previously.  I like the natural look it creates...
We have been away since Wednesday... a medical appointment in a town 3 hours away.  We got to travel in style - made the trip very easy. I got some time to look around the shops in the main part of the town.  The town was a lot busier than the pictures seem to show.

Another quilt together

I had been working on these blocks for some time...I decided to sew the blocks together over the weekend.  I like the message in the centre of this quilt. I still have a little embroidery to do on some of the blocks. This is a Leanne House design...

Birthday

My husband turned 55 on the weekend...
Our son was home for the day... the previous day he was groomsman for his mates wedding.

Flower

I searched for the name of this flower but could not find it in my flower book.  It's candle like flowers have a christmas look - I first removed all the leaves before making the bouquet...

Another project

Went shopping today and bought this blue fabric and threads at Spotlight....really like the blue toile fabric.   I got this stitchery out yesterday... and decided to finish it to hang on my wall.  I had previously worked it in red thread.  I then decided red didn't really go anywhere, so I spent yesterday unpicking what I had worked.
I will now stitch it in blue, the darker blue fabric will be the base the hearts are stitched too. The other blue fabrics the borders.  This is another project I bought about ten years ago at a Craft and Stitches show.  The hearts say joy, love, faith, hope, peace, wisdom...

Day Out

We had a day out in our nearby coastal town  - shopping, lunch.  This is the river that runs by the town to the sea.
I bought this star lantern for our outdoor area... from a very popular shop that sells decorator items.
Today I have been working on this church block for a friendship quilt.  I want to give it to the quilt friend tomorrow when our little group meets.  Each member has appliqued a different house, she will embroider the flowers and make up the quilt...

Folk Quilt

The first hydrangea flowers picked from my garden for this season - not quite open, but still lovely.  The rain has gone now, and the weather changed to humid, and blue skies.
I have been working on this quilt for the last couple of days.  It's called folk art finery - by the Rabbit Factory...  I bought the pattern and fat quarters at a Stitches and Craft show in Brisbane a couple of years ago.  I had the blocks made, but just needed to put the lattice together and the corner stars.  I really like the folk art style, though my colours are a bit pretty rather than primitive.

all that green

a green park in our little town ... I have to remind myself sometimes that all this green is why we like to live here... we live in a high rainfall area and it has been cloudy and raining  the last few days -saves having to water the garden.

This plum tree is just outside the back of our house.  The flying foxes (also called fruit bats) have a feast in it every night ... by a couple of weeks they will have eaten every plum off it. This year the flying foxes are not even waiting for the plums to get ripe.  They eat the plum and spit the seed out on the ground so each morning the ground under the tree is covered in seeds.
me busy mowing the lawn last week... we do have a man that mows the lawn every second week, but the grass grows so fast out the back, now it is spring.  I  mow the back part on the other week,  because the back lawn is like an extension of our living area -  he mowed today so I can have this week off from mowing.

Another Block

My DH took up reading his book on the new outdoor table as soon as it arrived.  Very happy with it.  Windy and cloudy today after the first hot day, yesterday.
Today I pieced together block 6 of butterfly garden quilt -after cutting out the pieces yesterday.
Now I can just relax and enjoy working the applique and embroidery - the best part...
